How Acupuncture Can Assist with Fertility
By Sarah Hayes, LAc, Acupuncture Northwest Portland
There have been numerous studies investigating the use of acupuncture as a complementary therapy for fertility treatment, and many of these studies have shown promising results.
Here are some statistics on acupuncture and fertility:
IVF success rates: A meta-analysis of 24 randomized controlled trials found that acupuncture, when used in conjunction with IVF, can increase the pregnancy rate by 65% and the live birth rate by 91%.
Ovulation: A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that women who received acupuncture treatments twice a week for five weeks had a significantly higher rate of ovulation than those who did not receive acupuncture.
Stress: A study published in the Journal of Endocrinology found that acupuncture can reduce the levels of stress hormones, such as cortisol, in the body.
Male fertility: A study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility found that men who received acupuncture treatment had a significantly higher sperm count and better sperm motility than those who did not receive acupuncture.
While these statistics are promising, it's important to keep in mind that every individual is different and may respond differently to acupuncture treatment. It's also important to consult with one of our acupuncturists to ensure the best possible outcomes.
