Getting Rid of Heartburn and Acid Reflux

Guest Blog:

Thank you Sarah! Wow what a transformation I have seen in my health and overall comfort level… I came to Sarah for help after the onset of chronic heartburn which was making my life miserable. Before  coming to see Sarah I saw my Primary Care doctor and he prescribed me a common heartburn medication without much of any other treatment suggestions. I picked up the prescription and began taking it… However quickly thereafter I abandoned the prescription due to side effects and my concern that I was only applying band aide and not addressing the root of the problem.

So off I went to see Sarah at Acupuncture Northwest. Sarah’s very straight forward advise was to stop drinking coffee and begin taking an herbal formula. Keep in mind I have a very healthy diet that is low in saturated fat, high in fiber and is whole food oriented, which made it even more perplexing as to why I acquired Acid Reflux.

My coffee intake was modest and typically it consisted of only a single shot soy latte each morning. However even that modest amount was enough to give me persistent Heartburn. Why? Because as Sarah explained – coffee is highly acidic. Unfortunately for those of us who are sensitive, coffee is a problem and should be avoided and consumed only occasionally if at all. While it seemed impossible to almost entirely eliminate the morning latte, I feel so much better now that I did.

Thank you.

Cold and Flu Tips and Tricks

It’s that time of year again. The weather is changing, kids are back in school, and the sore throats and snotty noses soon follow.  What can we do about it?  As many of you know, we have a few key supplements that can really make a difference:

Congaplex is an immune boosting vitamin that you can take on a regular basis if you are prone to getting sick or are exposed to a lot of germs, like teachers, kids and health care practitioners. It is super effective when taken right when you start to feel a little run down.

Yin Chiao is a Chinese herbal formula that is amazing at staving off what is called wind-heat in Chinese medicine. The first symptom is scratchy or sore throat. We recommend that people keep this in their car, purse, office or pantry. If you get a couple of doses in right away, it can save you from getting sick!

Garlic, fresh & raw has long been used as an antiviral. If a cold begins to take hold in your body, garlic can effectively vent the pathogen out of your body. A few good doses of garlic can decrease your sore throat and shorten the length of your cold.  Mince a large clove of garlic,  spread your favorite nut butter on a cracker or two, top with minced garlic and a drizzle of honey. Seriously delicious!

Oscillococcinum is a homeopathic remedy that can cut flu symptoms in half. If you have a headache, body aches, chills or fever, this is the ticket. It is not a cure, but flu symptoms can make life miserable and any relief is welcomed.

Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan, also known as “Clean Air” pills are amazing at clearing phlegm-heat. Just like it sounds, it quickly dries up the phlegm in the sinuses, chest and throat.

Xiao Chai Hu Tang is a formula that unblocks the Shao Yang (Gallbladder and Triple Warmer) channels. When you have a sinus infection and feel totally plugged up in the head, especially with clogged ears, this formula clears it right out.

Acupuncture!!! So many of you know that when you don’t feel good, you should come get a treatment. Acupuncture can cut the duration and intensity of your sickness in half. Regular acupuncture treatments are immune boosting and will keep your body’s defenses up.
